A long-term partnership for work that matters.
A Serious Production is a marketing and digital strategy studio for small businesses, solo entrepreneurs, and leadership & team development coaches who want help getting their voice out into the world.
We help identify your core value proposition, refine your voice, clarify goals, lay a strong foundation, build momentum, and create sustainable systems to support growth over time.
We’re not about quick fixes. We work with thoughtful people who want to make a meaningful impact.
We build the bridge between where you are and where you want to be.

Our Story Started Way Before Business
It started in 1991, in an eighth-grade video arts class in remote, northern Japan.
That’s where we met, collaborating on a music video. Every project we finished ended with the same consistent, perfectly straight-faced sign-off, delivered by Maylene, as she said, “This has been a serious production.”
The phrase stuck. And I guess we did too.
We’ve been building and creating together ever since — launching websites in the earliest days of the internet, committing to each other before marriage equality existed, starting and selling businesses, living in four different states, buying and selling three homes, traveling to dozens of countries, and most recently, navigating the challenges of living in a whole new environment as we call Portugal our home.

Through it all, one thing has been consistent: we work extraordinarily well together.
Our long-term collaboration influences the way we show up for our client partners. We don’t disappear once your website is launched. We don’t overpromise. When we commit, we mean it. We’re in a partnership working together towards your success. We all rise together.
About How We Work
Our partnership is all about a balance of our individual strengths. We complement one another well and together deliver better outcomes for our partners.
Maylene is the systems thinker and technical expert.

She’s been building and managing websites since 1999, working across WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, and various membership-based platforms. With a BA in Technology & Innovation Management from the University of Washington, Maylene excels at asking the right questions.
She can usually be found playing with WordPress but isn’t afraid to straight code in HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS, and other acronyms that make her sound smart to her mom. More than that, she designs and documents smart systems and translates complex technical lingo into language our partners can actually understand.
She’s also meticulous about quality, structure, training, and long-term sustainability — because we believe your website should be an asset that can grow with you.

Charity focuses on meaning, developing sustainable systems, and building momentum.

Charity’s background is in anthropology with a major in Society, Ethics, and Human Behavior, also from UW. She worked for two decades in Human Resources Management before transitioning into membership development, community growth, and marketing strategy.
Passionate about helping good people communicate their work and connect with the audience that needs to hear from them, Charity specializes in making sense. She helps leaders articulate what they do and why it matters.
In practice, this means developing newsletters people actually want to read, creating podcasts and video content that get your voice out there, creating social media content that connects, and building marketing calendars that grow momentum over time, sustainably.
It’s experimentation at its finest. It’s working together on something fun and meaningful.

Together we bring strategy, execution, and staying power.
Charity turns my thoughts on messaging into written words through our email event calendar. She coordinates all of the logistics for our workshops. Last month’s workshop hit our maximum capacity in registrations. I could not run my business without Charity and highly recommend her, including her website work.
We Work Best With
We’re a strong fit for clients who are ready to invest the time in reflection and self-evaluation it takes to build momentum. For clients who understand that building trust and consistency takes time and who want marketing systems, not gimmicks. Finally, integrity and inclusion are non-negotiable.
We’re especially drawn to leadership and team development coaches, values-driven founders, LGBTQ+ business owners, and people of color who want their work—and their voice—to be represented with authenticity and care.
We are not right for everyone. We’re not the best fit for someone who needs overnight growth, someone begging to “go viral”, or for someone who wants minimal involvement.
We want you to be involved. It’s important.
What I value most about Charity is how deeply she invests in my vision. She listens not just to my words, but to the heartbeat behind them — and then translates that essence into designs, content, and strategy that feel wholly “me.”
Serious About What Matters to YOU!
Despite the playful origin of our name, the meaning has strengthened over time. It’s more of a reflection of the work we do, how we help you make an impact, and how together we are making the world a little better. One intentional, impactful partner at a time.
We take you seriously.
We take your work seriously.
We take your goals seriously.
And we take the responsibility of amplifying your voice seriously.
If you think you could be that inclusive, intentional thought leader who’s ready to put in the work, we want to hear from you!
